Ian Camm, Chris Wright, David Lloyd, Fiona Poole, Jo Dudney and Mark Patteson are based at our Breadstone clinic

Scott Milnes is in charge of our Failand clinic, but also finds time to see his fans north of Bristol. Scott is assisted at Failand by our other vets “EJ” Davies, Philippa Richards and Janet Harrison. All our “south” vets come up to our Breadstone clinic to assist with surgical management of their cases and to help our surgical team.

All our vets have worked in equine practice for some years. We all cover equine events, from local shows to events such as the Cheltenham Festival, Gatcombe and Burghley, and many of us actively ride and own our own horses.

Ian Camm

The clinic was founded by Ian Camm in 1986. Ian was brought up locally (next door to the clinic!), and moved back to the area where he was closely involved with horses, their owners, and the Berkeley Hunt. Ian qualified from Liverpool and after a spell in Thornbury he worked for a large equine practice in Lichfield. The growth of the practice reflects Ian’s expertise and reputation. He is highly regarded by other equine vets and is now President of the British Equine Veterinary Association (although actually he infinitely prefers calling to rasp your pony’s teeth to some of his presidential duties). Ian was one of the first vets to pass the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice, a professional qualification that covers all aspects of equine work.

Mark Patteson

Mark qualified from Cambridge in 1986. He then worked at Bristol Vet School before joining Bushy in 1996. While at Bristol Mark worked with referred cases in internal medicine but his principal interests have been cardiology and imaging of the horse: X-rays, ultrasound and Bone Scanning. Mark is an RCVS recognised Specialist in Cardiology and has an international reputation. He receives referrals from all over the UK. Mark also set up our bone scanning unit and takes referrals from other practices for this. Much of his time is now spent with his referrals and with teaching students and other vets but he still enjoys involvement with routine cases and the challenges of emergencies on the out-of-hours service. Mark became a partner in 1998.

Scott Milnes

Scott qualified from Bristol in 1990 and worked in Devon and Somerset before joining Ian at Bushy in 1994 from Dick Best’s practice in Portishead. The fact that many clients followed him reflects his popularity and skills.

Scott has the Certificate in Equine Practice and a special interest in stud medicine and surgery. He became a partner in 1998 and takes responsibility for the running of our Failand clinic.

Jo Dudney

Jo qualified from Liverpool in 1999 and worked in an equine practice in North Yorkshire before spending a few months travelling and working in Africa.

Jo is based at our Breadstone clinic where she looks after the in-patients and does much of our imaging, lameness and anaesthesia work. Jo is studying for an RCVS qualification in orthopaedics.

Chris Wright

Chris qualified from Bristol in 1991 and then worked in mixed practice in the Midlands. He returned to Bristol where he was a resident in Equine Medicine and a vital part of the colic team.

Chris has a particular interest in internal medicine and in colic surgery. He sees equine medicine referrals and is part of our colic team.

Philippa Richards

Phillipa qualified from Edinburgh in 1996 and worked in mixed and equine practices in the south west before joining us from a large equine practice in the Midlands.

She is part time based at Failand. Phillipa is studying for the RCVS qualification in equine practice when she is not riding out racehorses or playing Rugby.
