Vale Vets Companion Animal Referrals.

We have a number of documents you can download and print for your clients.

Our hospital has excellent facilities, including; Colour-flow Doppler Ultrasound, Flexible endoscopy, blood pressure monitoring and Fluoroscopy. We aim to see cases promptly and provide good communication to you and your client.

Cases must be referred by the animal’s veterinary surgeon. If you wish to refer a case please telephone 01453 542092 and speak to Jacky Robertson, our referrals administrator, who will arrange an appointment with the appropriate referral clinician.

Cardiology

Dr. Mark Patteson MA VetMB PhD DVC CertVR RCVS

Mark qualified from Cambridge University in 1986 and then worked as equine and small animal house physician at Bristol University Veterinary School. After two years in mixed practice he returned to Langford as a Horserace Betting Levy Board scholar, to investigate the use of echocardiography in horses. He obtained his certificate in Small animal Cardiology in 1988, and the Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology in 1991. He was awarded his PhD in 1993, and the certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 1995.

He has published widely, is the author of a book, Equine Cardiology, published by Blackwell Science and was section editor (Cardiovascular Diseases) in Current Therapy in Equine Medicine IV. He is involved in teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level, is currently an examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology and has spoken at conferences in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Soft-tissue Surgery

Carol Wright BVSc CertVR CertSAS MRCVS

Carol qualified from the University of Bristol in 1991. She spent three and a half years in mixed practice in Shropshire before returning to the University of Bristol to take up a residency in small animal soft tissue surgery. She then spent the next three and a half years working at Langford under the guidance of Professor Holt and Mr JG Lane and Professor Pearson.

She gained the RCVS certificate in Radiology in 1995 and RCVS Small Animal Surgery Certificate in 1997.

After completing the surgery residency she moved to the Vale Veterinary Group in Dursley, Gloucestershire where she sees small animal soft tissue cases.

Internal Medicine

Tom Cave Cert SAM MRCVS & Adam Gow B.V.M.&S. MRCVS

Tom Cave and Adam Gow see internal medicine cases.

Tom graduated from the University of Bristol in 1996 and spent 3 years in mixed practice in Devon and Somerset gaining the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 1999. He then spent a year working for a small animal emergency service in Cardiff before moving to the University of Glasgow as the RCVS Trust Clarke & Sparrow Resident in Clinical Oncology in 2000.

In 2002 he undertook an externship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre, Seattle to study non-ablative allogenic bone marrow transplantation and became Senior Clinical Oncologist at Glasgow. From March 2003 he returned to the south-west to provide an oncology and internal medicine referral service at Vale Referrals. He sits the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2003 and completes a MSc in Human Clinical Oncology at the University of Birmingham in 2004.

He is a member of the British Veterinary Oncology Study Group. His particular interests include feline dysautonomia, immune-mediated disease and all aspects of medical oncology.

Adam’s interests are gastroenterology and respiratory medicine.

Neurology & MRI

Susan Fitzmaurice BVSc MRCVS DACVIM (neurology) DECVN

Susan graduated from the University of Sydney School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a residency in Veterinary Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. She is a Diplomate in Veterinary Neurology with both American and European boards. She has amassed experience in referral institutes in both America and the UK. Sue's clinical interests encompass all aspects of neurological disease, its diagnosis and treatment. She also provides BAER hearing testing clinics for various dog breeder clubs.

Surgical and Medical Oncology

The Oncology service is provided by Tom Cave and Carol Wright. Tom has a special interest in medical oncology while Carol is our soft tissue surgeon who deals with the surgical cases

Dermatology

A regular dermatology clinic is held at Vale. Please telephone 01453 542092 to find the next date and arrange an appointment for your client.

Ophthamology

A regular Ophthamology clinic is run by the Eye Veterinary Clinic which is a dedicated second opinion clinic specialising in all aspects of ophthalmic work.
