He obtained his certificate in Small animal Cardiology in 1988, and the Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology in 1991. He was awarded his PhD in 1993 and the certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 1995.

He has published widely and is the author of a book, Equine Cardiology, published by Blackwell Science. He was section editor (Cardiovascular Diseases) in Current Therapy in Equine Medicine IV. He is involved in teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level, is currently an examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology and has spoken at conferences in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Mark also set up our bone scanning unit, and receives referrals from all over the UK. Much of his time is now spent with his referrals, and with teaching students and other vets, but he still enjoys involvement with routine cases and the challenges of emergencies on the out-of-hours service.
