We are looking for a dedicated Night Veterinary Nurse to join our team working 7 nights on 7 nights off. You will be responsible for the overnight inpatient care of our 1st opinion and referral patients. We see a range of different cases across our 1st opinion service and referral disciplines meaning no two nights are the same. You will get exposure to high dependency, critical patients. You also take our out of hours emergency calls allowing you to use your triage skills. You have the option to be involved in out of hours surgery, if desired.
We have brand new ward facilities, with separate cat, dog, exotic and isolation wards. The hospital is in the final stages of an expansion to update and enlarge our reception and all clinical areas. We have all the usual facilities a referral hospital has as well as an on site CT scanner.
We have 7 1st opinion vets and 8 referral specialists who are supported by a team of 37 RVNs, SVNs and HAs. Overnight you work alongside a hospital assistant and have the backup support of an on call team consisting of a nurse and 2 veterinary surgeons. Many of our nursing team have further qualifications which helps to support the more junior members of the team in their career development.
You should have a desire for out of hours work and be able to work independently, not minding occasional lone working. At times the role requires quick thinking, problem solving and decision making. Previous night experience and referral nursing experience is advantageous but not essential. The role will suit somebody who strives in the inpatient care environment and is a calm and competent worker during emergency situations. You will be required to guide and direct the hospital assistant that you are working alongside. You must be an RVN with preferably a few years qualified experience. If you like a varied and interesting case load this is the role for you.
