Name: Leah Priday
Job: Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN)
Time qualified: I am currently studying a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN). I started my course in 2017 and will be taking my practical exams in November this year to complete my qualification.
Do you have a favourite aspect of your job or an area of special interest?
I enjoy working on kennels and caring for the in-patients.
Are you studying for a further qualification or do you plan to?
When I qualify I would like to study for a certificate in feline nursing. What do you do that most people wouldn’t know a student vet nurse does? For my training I have to complete a skills log which involves me performing skills until I feel confident enough to claim competency.
What’s the best part of your job?
As I love working in kennels the best part of my job is nursing the patients and seeing them improve day to day.
What’s the worst part of your job?
What is a typical day in your job?
Day to day I will either be on kennels helping nurse the in-patients or on operations with the day patients in for procedures. This involves going through the admission with owners, preparing theatre ready for the procedures and monitoring the anaesthetic. Then there is the continued care through to when the patient is discharged back to their owner.
