Name: Claire Walker
Job: Hospital Assistant
Time qualified: I have applied to start Veterinary Nurse training in September
What route of study do you plan to take to qualification?
I have applied for the diploma course, so lots of hands on training within the practice which I’m really looking forward to.
What’s the best part of your job?
My favourite part of being a Hospital assistant is helping out in the operating theatre, this involves prepping the patients for surgery, opening up sterile kit for the vets and helping patients recover after surgery (giving them lots of cuddles!). I find it really interesting watching the many types of surgeries that take place.
What’s the worst part of your job?
The not so interesting part of my job is all the washing to get through. We use a lot of towels and blankets within the practice and it's a hospital assistant’s job to get all of it washed, dried and put away.
What is a typical day in your job?
As hospital assistants, we work different shifts but a typical day would involve; walking the dogs, keeping cupboards restocked and tidy, sweeping and mopping floors, washing, helping vets/nurses with patients, sterilising kit used in theatre and keeping the practice clean and tidy.
We are fortunate at Vale Vets to have an amazing team of committed, talented and enthusuastic staff.
We are an RCVS approved veterinary hospital with a team of friendly vets and qualified nurses who are available 24/7
