Hedgehog Awareness Week 5th – 11th May 2019
If you have a hedgehog in the garden, you can help it out by putting down a little cat food and leaving a pile of leaves or logs for it to hibernate under. Also, don't forget to check your bonfire before you light it! Whether you live in town or country, you can help to look after garden wildlife by providing food, water and shelter.
Hedgehog Rescue is a voluntary group of individuals who care for sick, injured & orphaned hedgehogs, within their own homes in the South West.
Our local hero Beryl Casey has been rehabilitating hedgehogs in the Portishead area for the last 23 years. Beryl on average looks after between 150-200 hedgehogs every year. Once they are fit to be released, they go back to the same place where they were found or she has a network of people/places she relies on for the safe release. Vale Vets are also proud to provide any Veterinary support when needed for her spikey friends.
Beryl is keen for this important work to continue well into the future. Part of this safeguarding is to find another fantastic volunteer in the Portishead area who can support her. Beryl will be able to provide full training & advice on all things ‘hedgehogs’. In return, you will need passion & enthusiasm for wildlife, time & space to care for the hedgehogs, as well as co-ordinating their release back into the wild when they are ready.
If you think, you have what it takes to be a local wildlife hero caring for these amazing animals, please get in touch with Beryl directly on 01275 848894 so this important work can continue for generations to come. If you would like to know more about what is involved, please contact Beryl who would be more than happy to give you all the information you need.
We are fortunate at Vale Vets to have an amazing team of committed, talented and enthusiastic staff.
