Poor Jake the Miniature Schnauzer had been having urinary tract infections & other issues when it was discovered he had protein and calcium oxalate crystals in his urine.
Imaging showed what looked like an unusual stone in his bladder so we went in surgically to investigate & found hundreds of tiny calcium stones. This is something that any dog can get but Schnauzers are unfortunately predisposed to. The stones are irritating & uncomfortable and predispose to infections, however, the biggest risk with these stones is obstruction of the urinary tract which can be very serious.
He is now on a special low-calcium diet with increased water intake to try to prevent recurrence. He is recovering well from surgery & here he is chilling out at home!
